WERA 2025 Spring Symposium
Keynote Presenters
Dr. Laura Wentworth is the Director of the Research-Practice Partnership Program at California Education Partners and Dr. Paula Arce-Trigatti is the Director of the National Network of Education Research-Practice Partnerships. Together, they will deliver our keynote presentations on Thursday March 20 and Friday March 21 and they will lead two breakout sessions: one for people who are in the very beginning phases of setting up a Research-Practice Partnership (RPP), and one for people who are a little further along in the RPP process. Thursday Keynote: "What is this thing called an RPP?" Exploring Fundamentals of Research-Practice Partnerships in Education
Friday Keynote: What Works and How to Make it Work in Education Research-Practice Partnerships: Stories from the Field.
In these two keynote talks, participants will engage in the concept of research-practice partnerships in education. According to Farrell and colleagues (2021), “RPPs are long term collaborations focused on educational improvement or equitable transformation through engagement with research. These partnerships are intentionally organized to connected diverse forms of expertise and shifts of power relations in the research endeavor to ensure that all partners have a say in the joint work” (p. iv). The Thursday keynote discussion will explore the “core DNA” of a research-practice partnership in education. This will give conference participants a common foundation and vocabulary for conversations about RPPs in the conference. The Friday keynote discussion will explore some examples of RPPs that have the goal of achieving different outcomes, including some RPPs working towards successful secondary to post-secondary transitions. Participants will be able to engage in some “cases” of RPPs in education during the Friday keynote.
